Perler beads have had a revival of late. Somewhat similar to the intricate colouring pages for adults, perler bead crafting also can be for adults. I originally ordered some beads but misjudged the size and while I was completely enthralled by the gorgeous colours, instantly knew that there was no way my kids were going to handle these mini 2.5mm ones.
That led to some frantic scrambling for design projects to attempt and wow, there are plentiful. From the colourful mandalas to characters, to well loved objects and cross stitch designs, there were plenty to do. The kids became mini bosses and directed the ‘design’ and these came to pass.
I made a number of floral squares, hot-glued magnets on to the backs and wrapped up the children’s teacher’s day gifts with them. The fun (and sometimes, horror!) is in the making.
So what have you made to lately?
Here are a couple of my favourite designs to kick you off.

** While these 2.5mm are somewhat a pain to handle, you got to admit that a number of designs just have to be made in this size. If you use the regular sized ones… the resulting designs are just huge. Not to mention they lose some charm along the way.
